A quick primer
The Search Terms report shows which real queries triggered an ad. Ad Relevance measures whether the ad matches that query. Landing Page Experience measures whether the page matches the ad.
The gap can sit at either transition, and each requires a different fix.
What to check before you touch anything
- Ad Relevance for low-CVR keywords.
- Landing Page Experience for the same keywords.
- Whether real query wording matches the ad's content.
- Whether a specific ad leads to a page that reflects its own text.
Possible approaches
- If the gap is at query-to-ad, narrow ad groups and adjust copy.
- If the gap is at ad-to-page, rewrite the specific page, not the ad.
- Build separate pages for ads with different emphases sharing one generic page.
- Use a session recording tool to see how visitors from a specific query behave.
- DataMind matches keyword, ad, and page in one table by segment, removing manual cross-referencing.
